A 15-day relay strike was started on Saturday by contracted assistant professors at JNTU in Hyderabad, who are demanding the full execution of GO MS No. 11, a government order from April 2018 that promised arrears clearance and increased salaries. "We have been waiting for six long years, and the university has disregarded the government's order in spite of multiple appeals. Fairness and acknowledgement of our service are more important than money, a professor told Deccan Chronicle. There will be two stages to the strike. The first, which is currently in progress, consists of a 15-day relay protest during which instructors take turns making sure that classes go on as usual. But the instructors threatened to go on strike and completely stop classes if their demands were not fulfilled. Another faculty member said, "We don't want to interfere with our students' education, but if the administration continues to ignore us, we have no other choice." The academics stated that they wanted to resolve the issue through open discussion and urged university management to release their past-due salary. The management of the university has yet to respond formally, despite the situation getting worse. |
