The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has standards for periodic reviews of government personnel, which all division heads have been advised to strictly observe by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes (CBIC). Failure to do so could result in premature retirement. The review is applicable to employees who are 30 years of age or older and is based on criteria such as effectiveness and integrity. The importance of these reviews in improving administrative efficiency was underlined by the CBIC. Committees chaired by senior authorities supervise various employee groups' processes. The administration made it clear that early retirement under these regulations is meant to preserve the public interest rather than serve as a punishment. |
