People face hurdles registering for the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) due to technical issues and strikes by National Health Mission (NHM) workers. Across Maharashtra, around 5.60 lakh eligible pregnant women and lactating mothers have encountered similar problems. Only 3.34 lakh beneficiaries were registered out of a target of 7.44 lakh for 2023-24, with just 1.84 lakh women receiving financial aid. Dr A B Gadikar attributes the shortfall to NHM strikes and a sluggish PMMVY portal, exacerbated by training delays for ASHA workers. The portal's performance issues, including a '504 error', and its lack of user-friendliness have hindered the process. Additionally, officials deem the increased beneficiary target for 2023-24 as unrealistic, resulting in a drastic drop in coverage to just 44% compared to over 100% in previous years.
