The Chief Justice of India (CJI) D Y Chandrachud announced the reconstitution of the 11-member Supreme Court Gender Sensitisation and Internal Complaints Committee (GSICC) aimed at addressing issues related to gender discrimination and harassment within the Supreme Court. “I exercised powers conferred by Clause 4(2) of the GSICC regulations and other enabling provisions,” the CJI stated. Justice B V Nagarathna was appointed as the Chairperson of the committee, with Dr. Sukhda Pritam serving as the Member Secretary. The committee's formation reflects a commitment to tackle complaints of inequality and harassment effectively. The CJI added that the committee includes notable members such as Supreme Court Justice Nongmeikapam Kotiswar Singh and senior advocates Dr. Menaka Guruswamy, Bansuri Swaraj, and Liz Mathew, among others. “We aim to create a safer and more equitable environment in the Supreme Court,” he emphasized. Other members include representatives from the Supreme Court Bar Association and the Supreme Court Bar Clerks' Association, highlighting a collaborative approach to address these critical issues. |
